Description

Lypholized powder form needing reconstitution.
Cagrilintide is a once-weekly injectable medication developed by Novo Nordisk for weight management and type 2 diabetes. It functions as a long-acting amylin analog, which mimics a natural hormone to suppress appetite, enhance feelings of fullness, and slow stomach emptying.
How It Works & Clinical Results
Unlike GLP-1 medications (like Wegovy or Ozempic), cagrilintide targets amylin and calcitonin receptors in the brain, offering a different pathway for appetite control.
    • As a monotherapy: In phase 3 trials, it demonstrated an average body weight reduction of approximately 11.8% over 68 weeks.
  • In combination (CagriSema): When combined with semaglutide, clinical trials have shown weight loss results exceeding 20%.
Safety & Side Effects
As with other medications in the weight-management class, cagrilintide is generally well-tolerated, but carries the potential for gastrointestinal side effects:
  • Common: Mild to moderate nausea, vomiting, constipation, or diarrhea.
  • Dosing: It typically involves a gradual dose-increase (titration) over several weeks to minimize these side effects
