ARA 290 (cibinetide) is a synthetic 11-amino-acid peptide derived from the tissue-protective domain of erythropoietin (EPO). Engineered to avoid stimulating red blood cell production, it selectively activates the innate repair receptor (IRR) to reduce inflammation, alleviate neuropathic pain, and promote tissue regeneration.
Core Research & Clinical Applications
-
- Neuropathic Pain: ARA 290 has been studied for its ability to reduce chronic pain, specifically in conditions like small-fiber neuropathy, sarcoidosis, and diabetic neuropathy.
- Tissue Protection & Inflammation: By down-regulating pro-inflammatory cytokines, it limits nerve and tissue damage. Clinical data suggests it may also help repair small nerve fibers in the cornea.
- TRPV1 Antagonism: Some research indicates it provides direct pain relief by acting as an antagonist to the TRPV1 channel (which is responsible for pain and temperature sensation).
