Description

Lypholized powder needing reconstitution.
Survodutide is an investigational once-weekly injectable dual agonist that targets both glucagon receptors and GLP-1 receptors. Developed jointly by Zealand Pharma and Boehringer Ingelheim, it is being evaluated for chronic weight management and liver diseases like MASH (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis).
How It Works
Unlike traditional GLP-1 medications (like semaglutide), survodutide adds glucagon receptor activation. This dual-action mimics the natural hormone oxyntomodulin:
    • Appetite Suppression: The GLP-1 component signals the brain to reduce hunger and increase feelings of fullness.
    • Increased Energy Expenditure: The glucagon component aids in breaking down fat stores (lipolysis) and increasing energy use in the liver.
Clinical Trial Results
Survodutide is showing promising efficacy across its Phase 3 clinical program:
  • Weight Loss: In the Phase 3 SYNCHRONIZE-1 trial, adults without diabetes taking the highest dose (6.0 mg) for 76 weeks achieved an average weight reduction of up to 13.0% from baseline.
  • Liver Fat Reduction: The SYNCHRONIZE-MASLD trial showed that over 84% of participants on survodutide achieved a ≥ 30% reduction in liver fat content.
  • Fat Targeting: Early data suggests it is highly effective at reducing visceral and liver fat while potentially preserving muscle mass
